A DROUGHT FEARED.
Sydney, September 24. There are disquieting reports from the Kmnna about the shortage of pasturage. Unless rain falls within a fort- • night the outlook is gloomy. Stockowners are already leasing thousands of acre* of new pasture in the mountains and cooler districts in anticipation of a drought. RECORD SEPTEMBER HEAT. WEI-COME RALV SETS IX. Received Sept. 24, 11.1 p.m. " Sydney, September 24. Under the influence of a hot westerly wind, Sydney today experienced the hottest Septemlier day since l«5fl, the thermometer registering 91.1. The city was hidden under clouds of dust. A cool change, accompanied by rain, set in to-night. Rain is falling in the south-western districts and towards the South Australian border. The prospects of relief from the Teat heat which has prevailed thn-nghoul the State lately is more hopeful.
BUSH FIRES CHECKED.
Received Sept. 25, 1.4 a.m. Sydney, September 24. Bain has cheeked the lm-h fires which have been raging for days in the Blue Mountains. For miles between Springwood and Linden, and from Katoouiba ten miles towards Megalong, lias been swept bv fire, presenting a magnificent spectacle."
