MEMORIAL AT AYR. Received Sept. 22, 4.25 p.m. London, September 21. Fifteen hundred pounds has been subscribed at Ayr to erect a memorial to the late Sir James Fergusson and to create a benevolent fund associated with his name. The Earl of Eglinton and the Duke of Portland have subscribed £IOO each. It is hoped many in South Australia and New Zealand may assist. The late Rt. Hon. Sir James Fergusson, Bart., was killed during the gre»t Kingston earthquake some months ago. Amongst the many very high diplomatic offices held by him throughout the Empire at various times, he was Governor of Souil! Australia in 180S and Governor of New Zealand 1873-1875.
