In order lo raise land for the work the hdies of tiie congregation arranged for a sale of work, and have latterly been very busy preparing lor it. The" function was fixed for yesterday, and unfortunately the afternoon proved unpleasantly wet. Nevertheless, good numbers attended—enough to at once demonstrate the limited proportions of the building. ills Wor.-hip the Mayor ollii-ially opened the s>le, and business
proceeded briskly in all departments. The rather ambitious ideas of the promovers had to give way to the want of room, aud instead of the gooJs being sold in "rooms" as planned, they were arranged on stills as usu d. These were simply packed with goods of all kinds, from patty pans' and little mops in the kitchen to lovely needlework for the Jiu--1 ing and drawing-rooms. The arrange-
ment was good, each stall carrying poods which might well be expected from it* title. They were designated the kitchen, storeroom, bedroom, nursery, dining and drifting room stalls.
whilst a fish-pond, flower stall, and afternoon tea and supper rooms—these in a large marquee—shared in (he coin of the realm distributed by visitors, 'flic
