FITZROY BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Fitzroy Bowling and Croquet Club was held in the pavilion at Fitzroy last night. Mr. Denipsey (president) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. The president, in submitting his annual report, stated that the club's prospects lor the coming season were brighter than they had been in the past, principally because of the improved state of the green. He stated that in the past the club had worked in the dark, and blunders had occurred in some matters which had cost money, but he hoped they had turned the corner, and that better times were in store for them. The croquet lawns had been the most successful part of the grounds, and the ladies who had patronised them had had many hard-fought games, and the club had to thank them for their hearty cooperation in many matters. Owing to the grounds not being in the best of order, only three outside clubs had visited their green during the past season. Four matches had been played, and of these two had been won and two lost. The club had lost two active membersMr. Cuerin, who had left for Wellington, and the late Mr. likett, whose sad death was sorely felt by all who knew him. A club social had been held, and through the efforts of the ladies it proved an unqualified success. The increased membership, improved green, and greater unanimity amongst members ought to see matters adjusted satisfactorily, and a successful season resulting.

The secretary (Mr. Mcllroy) then read the balance-sheet. The liabilities exceed the assets by £l3B, the principal items being bank overdraft £650, and mortgage account £450, whilst the working account 190C-7 shows a loss of £l6 15s.

On the motion of the president the balance-sheet as read was adopted. At this stage it was unanimously decided to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs Pikett, and her family, expressing the Club's heartfelt sympathy with them in their recent sad bereavement. In answer to a letter from the Rank

re overdraft, the guarantors were asked to wait on the manager, and to report ta a general meeting at some future date. Mr. Ede read a report in connection with a special account raised to case the general revenue of the club. A lengthy discussion took place as to whether this should lie included in this year's balance sheet, and it was finally decided to add this item on the balance sheet of next year. The election of officers resulted as follows: I're-ident, Mr G. W. Malone; vice-presidents, Mcsus F. W. Sandford, A. Lcaland. M. .1. Jones: secretary. Mr. K. A. Ede; auditors. Messrs !•'. J. Jackson and A. 11. Arnold; committee, Me-rs S. Uenncll. (;. Criffith-. A. Averv, V. U-aland, L. Oliver-. T. ('.. Sole, M. P.amson, and F. 11. Jackson. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers, the Indie-*, the press, to Mr. Ede for the able manner in which he carried out the late social, and to , the caretaker. Mr. Aldridge, to whom the present state of the green was entirely due.
