DOMINION DAY.

THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

The Mayor (Mr. e. Doekrill) has received the following communication from tile Premier:—

lhc following are the arrangements for celebrating Dominion Day as far as Wellington is concerned:— 11 a.m.—Declaration of Dominion bv His Excellency, followed by a salute from man-of-war ami forts. 2 p.m.—His Excellency, Ministers, and party arrive at Kewtotvn Park. Received by His Worship the Mayor; Koyal salute by troops; inspection by the Governor; short speeches bv the Governor and Prime Minister; consecration ol the King's colors by the senior chaplain; presentation of King's colors to troops; Royal salute to colors; troop colors and march-past of volunteers; the whole ceremony to be over by halfpast 3 o'clock.

Reception at Government House at 4.30 o clock. Torchlight procession through city at /.30 p.m. Reception at Town Hall from 8.30 to 10 p.m. This will give you an indication of what will be done here, and will, I hope, enable you to make your arrangements for the day. The only part in which ™ a "' m ,s dosir «l is the declaration' ot the Dominion at 11 a.m. I will telegraph you in the course of a day or two a copy of the Dominion declaration hat will be read by His Excellency in Welmgton. This can bo read by you' to the people of your town at the' same hour— namely, 11 a.m.

At a meeting of the Holiday Association to-day, after a discussion it was unanimously decided not to observe a holiday on Dominion Day, but to keep the shops and business places open as usual. It was also decided to protest against Dominion Day being made a statutory holiday,
