OLD AGE PENSIONS.
AX ENGLISH SCHEME CRITICISED. Received Sept. 18, 9.31 p.m. London, September 18. Mr. Coghlan, Agent-G.-neral for New South Wales, in a long letter to the Times condemns Lord Avebury's pension scheme as impracticable. He declares the general results of granting pensions in Australia had been most excellent, and had not destroyed the people's independence nor removed incentives to thrift.
