DISTURBER OF THE PEACE.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Police Court this morning, before Mr. C. C. Graham, S.M., Robert Garthshore was charged with maliciously disturbing the inhabitants of a house in Kussell-street by using a noisy instrument (a hand organ). It appeared that accused had taken exception to Ms mother's action in disposing of certain property to her daughter, and deliber-ately-went to the house with an organ night after night. He went right opposite the door of his mother's bedroom, and had actually gone- into "the house and called his mother objectionable names. Accused had absolutely refused to ' cease playing the organ, notwithstanding that the police had remonstrated with him. His mother was 79 years of age. The defence was that the reason of tho conduct was to show disapproval of being excluded from his mother's presence. Defendant got an organ and played "Home, Sweet Home" on only one occasion. ,
The Magistrate characterised the offence as a serious one, and fined accused 30s, with costs (£2 4s).
