Per Press Association. . , Cl'ristchuroli, j jaßt Night Ihe inquiry by the Christchurch Licensnig Committee into the allegations concenung the control and conluc of the new Cntenon Hotel was concluded to-day. The matter first came before the committee on September sth and was then adjourned till the 13th,'when a quantity of contradictory evidence was given. An adjournment was then granted for the purpose of enabling Mrs. Green, wife of the licensee, to attend and give evidence, Mrs, Green being too ill to appear last week. Mrs. Green, in her evidence to-day,' denied that the house was conducted in an improper manner: Counsel for Manning and Co., holders of a mortgage for £B6OO over the property urged that they, as innocent parties, should not be penalised in the event of an adverse finding, and that an opportumty shouU be given the licensee to be Ut"d. that m ° rt » ™« U ■ tt, T - he « c ° mmitt ° e "«red to consider their flndrag, and on returning the chirrman made the following statement:Ihe committee are unanimously of the opinion that the house has been improperly conducted, and that neither Mr. Green nor Mrs. Green are fit and proper persons to have the conduct of a licensed ■ ' house. As the outcome of that decision, they are not prepared at this moment " to say what their action will be, but will adjourn, these sittings for seven days to enable the Bench to consider the position of the innocent parties,"
