"A PROPER HIDING."

A CALLOUS BOY IN THE DOCK. Brisbane, Aug. 28. Probably the youngest occupant of the prisoner's dock in the Supreme Court of this State was a lad named James Jamison, aged 13, who appeared before the Chief Justice to-day charged with causing grievous bodily harm to another lad, William George Higgins. Prisoner and Higgins were employed at a boot factory at Paddington, and had quarrelled. Prisoner picked up a very large stone and threatened to "lay out" Higgins. The latter wrenched the stone from the prisoner and threw it on the ground, but while Higgins' back was turned Jamieson again pic<ed up the stone and threw it with force at Higgins' head from a distance of two yards, causing a fracture of the skull. The jury found Jamieson guilty, with a recommendation to mercy on account of his youth. The Chief ivtice sentenced him to four years in Westbrook Reformatory. As soon as the Chief Justice left the Bench the youthful prisoner called out, "Tell Higgins that when I get out I'll give him a proper hiding."
