N ■ « fi \ .. TEKKIB&E SCENES. '

Melbourne, Aug. 30. A small wooden building , t t brhoi was the scene of a,Jen*»» tragedy this Miss Ann Mills (7U) JHl*«**™d to death. Her irother, Wil lEm afUls (12), a general dealer, with whom she lived, was shockingly burned _ all over the body. He jwastaken to the Melbourne Hospital, where he died a few hours later. How the fire originated is not known, but when the brigade, got there the plaee was a mass of "flames. The firemen learned that the couple were inside, and two men dashed' in and got the old man out. They wished in again, and found the old lad.* lying dead on the floor of a back room. The lower portion of her body was burned to cinders; her head had been destroyed by fire, and there was practically nothing left of her but the feuak and some of her clothing. Appearances indicate that the fire started at the foot of the stairs, and as \ the pair were of intemperate habits, it is supposed that the woman tripped when carrying a lamp upstairs. Both were seen at six o'clock in the evening. It is evident that they were possessed of considerable property, but the neighbors state that they lived like misers. The police, on searching the room where Miss Hub slept, found deeds for property worth about £15,000, and a bank book for over £9OO.
