FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. PIKETT.
A very large concourse of people yesterday afternoon followed to their last earthly resting-place the remains of the late Mr. Arthur Albert Pikett. The funeral cortege was a long one, and representative of North.™ Taranaki, many people having travelled long distances in order to pay this last tribute of respect to the memory of a popular citizen and an honest man. As was fitting, there were pivsenl many representatives of the building and contracting trades and of the local bodies for whom the deceased contractor had at various times carried out important works. His Worship the Mayor and members of the liorough Council followed their late colleague to the grave, and there were also in procession the members of the three local Masonic Lodges, the New Plymouth Tent of Rechabites, and the members of tlu town Fire Brigade. The service at the grave Vas read by the Rev. W. Bowie, of Stratford, and the Rev. Armstrong, of New Plymouth. The former gentleman, in a brief and touching address to those gathered at the graveside, referred to fourteen years' personal and loving friendship with the deceased. Of his good qualities, he said, there was no need to speak. Those who had known the late Mr. Pikett had known him as a mail, a Christian, and a gentleman. Only those who had been privileged, however, to know him privately had learned to the full extent the fine traits of his character. Following on these remarks, P.D.C.R. Bro. J. Whitaker read the funeral lines of the Rechabite Order, and P.M. Bro. C. E. Bellringer the Masonic burial service. Many beautiful wreaths were laid upon the coffin.
