At a meeting of representatives from all parts of the Waikato yesterday convened by the Political Reform League, Captain Allen Bell, provincial president of the Farmers' Union, was unanimously chosen as the Opposition candidate at the next election. To a young. lady in New Zealand a certificate of competency as a marine engineer has been granted. According to the ann.ial report of the New Zealand Maritime Department, Miss J. A. McKegg, of Henley, having passed the necessary examination, has obtained a certificate as engineer of a restricted limit vessel propelled by gas, oil, fluid, electricity, cr other mechanical power than steam. The report states that this is the first instance, in which the NewZealand Marine Department has granted a certificate to a woman.
