BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Per Press Association. I Wellington, Last Night, j Mere was a very large crowd at the Ojicra House to-night to witness the final ('(intents for the Australasian Boxing Championships. The spectator* showed tlie keenest interest throughout, and at limes the enthusiasm was so great that the referee had difficulty in ipielling the uproar. The hantam contest was lietween B. Lusher (New Smith Wales) and .1. Parker (Christchurcu). [.usher boxed in a very scientific manner, and was awarded the decision amidst hearty cheering. J. Lane («w South Wales) and A. L. Nash (Cliristehureh) met in the welter division. Both men abandoned all pretence at scientific boxing and went in simply for hard hitting. The New Smith Welshman was counted out in the second" round, and Nash declared the winner amidst a perfect yell of enthusiasm.
The light-weight contest was between I 1). White (New South Wales) and 11. \ Jlayze (Christcluirch), the latter winning afler an excellent set-to. A. Tresize (Ashburtou) and W. Elliott (Tiinani) fought out the feather-weights championship. This contest afforded ,in excellent exhibition of the finer points of boxing; indeed, it was the finest bout of the evening, also superior to anything seen on the previous night. Victory went to Elliott. The middle-weight aspirants for championship honors were A. J. Scanlon ('Queensland) and L. Fletcher (Wellington). Scanlon's tremendous though unscientific manner nonplussed the New Zealauder, who beaten from the start.
