' MAKAHU. The annual meeting of shareholder and suppliers was held in the Makaliu : factory ou August 30tU. The factory lias liad a very good season, the output being a fraction over 00 per cent of an 1 increase over the previous year. Great credit is due to the late manager, Mr S. ' Clay for turning out a superior article, and credit is also due to the various suppliers for the good quality of milk de- ' livered, as without sweet milk high-class butter is not obtainable. A bonus of £lO was donated to the late manager, which he rightly deserved, as he did all in his power for' the advancement of the factory, and tested suppliers' herds free to all who cared to bring samples of milk. Needless Ho Sa.y, "most lof the suppliers availed themselves of the opportunity. After the balance-sheet ; was submitted and the various sums itemised by Mr Penn, the secretary, it was adopted unanimously. All sup- 1 pliers were present, with the exception ' of Mr D. D. Goocli, who has been abs-'nt for a few weeks owing to sickness. The ' retiring directors were Messrs W. Maim- * ing and D. R. Cooch. A vote of thanks 1 was accorded them for services rendered, and sympathy to Mr. Gooeh. S. Martin and 11. Mounscy were elected directors in the' place of t ho.se retiring. Mr A. Boyno was re-elected chairman, . and was voted £lO towards his «x- . peuses. A hearty vote of thanks Was accorded the Bank of New South Wales, and especially the manager, for the valuable assistance received from time to time, to which Mr Mounford, the matiager, responded. This season's output lias not yet been disposed of. A deputation, consisting of the chairman and S. Martin, were to meet the buyers at ' Stratljfeiore on September Oth. The factory commenced running on the 2nd September every other day until the supply . increases somewhat. About B0 cows
are at present being milked, but four | more suppliers are expected during the I coming week. The present manager,' Mr Kilpatriek, is quite taken with "the ', district, and having the confidence of the suppliers another successful season ' is anticipated. ,t The weather at present is very wet,' ' ami in consequence the roads are some-! what sloppy, to say nothing of a rut! here and there. j Much sympathy is felt for the teach- ■ cr. Miss Williams, who has tendered n_>r : resignation owing to the ride from Strathmoro being too much of a strain : upon her health. Fifteen miles a -lay on a mud roul is too mueh for most men, mueh loss a woman. Tt is to be hoped the Minister of Education will allow the grant applied for by the Taranaki Education Bonrd for 'u residence hero, which when built and a resident teacher will be a great boon to the children.
