THE EAST ROAD.
1 ALMOST IMPASSABLE. The recent continuous and heavy rains have cut up all the roads in ihe district very considerably. The Strathmore Saddle is now in an exceedingly bad state owing to the late heavy rains and the heavy timber traffic which is now taking place in that locality, si.vs flic Stratford Post. Drivers of vehicle, who managed to got through on W'dliesday morning were mud from head l to foot, and the passengers by the in lil coach were compelled to get out rind' walk through quite eighteen inches of solid mud to enable the veh : le to get through some of the worst places U n . less something is very speedily done t 0 : improve the state of the rokd there >s even a. probability that the maii 1 coach may have to cease running. The Saddle is a portion of the road funded over to the Stratford County Council last year. The Po'ioknn portion is under Government control. Jietween Huiakama and Po'ioknm portion is under Government control. Ketwccn Huiakama and Pohokura in some places the roid i s below (he level of the creek, having been iusl iocently washed away. It is high time the authorities took some steps to make this portion at any rate a little safer.
