RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE CANADIAN MEETING. Ottawa, August 28. In connection with the Dominion Rifle Association matches, Colonel Hughes, president, gave a luncheon to the officers of the teams. Earl Grey, GovernorGeneral, in welcoming the visitors, referred to the importance, from an Imperial standpoint, of the attendance of British, Australian, and Newfoundland teams. Sir F. Borden also welcomed the visiting teams. Sir 80/ den added that he hoped every schoolboy in Canada over thirteen years of age would soon have a rifle and equipment and receive training in marksmanship. Four Australians won places in the Dominion match prize list. Motton (Queensland), with b'7 out of a possible 70, took the second prize.
The return match between the Mangorei Rifle Club and a team from the Taranaki Rifles took place on The Rew.i Rewa range yesterday, the club winning by three points. The highest scorer for the winners was Mr M. Marsh (93), and for the Rifles Lieut.-Col. Okey (91). The match was finished in the dusk. The visitors were entertained by the Riiles at Mrs Eva's house, adjoining the range. The match was much delayed, owing to the want of telephones. The Riiles' team has to thank the Guards for being able to complete the match, th" latter 1 company placing their marker and target at the disposal of the contesting teams at the last range. v
