FORGERS' FATAL QUARREL. THE CAPTAIN EXONERATED. Hobart, August 24. Ihe Court which inquired into tho WNfk of the Kawaliri at Maequarw Heads found that Captain Crawford was justified in attempting to enter the harbor. No blame was attached to him or his officers for Uie loss 'of the Kawatiri. Tho Court expressed satisfaction with the manner in which the captain acted after the vessel had struck. :' IHE ARAWATTA-INGEBORG OOL- [ LISION. DAMAGING STATEMENTS. Brisbane, August 24. The enquiry into the collision between the Arawata and the Ingeborg is being continued. The boatswain of the Arawatta under _ cross-examination deposed that one of . the crew of the Ingeborg had come to him, ajid said that, if the captain of the Arawatta would guarantee him £IOO he would exonerate the Arawatta.
He also told witness that the Ingeborg had not lights after leaving New Zea- ■ ' land, but only a candle,in the Lighthouse made fast by a bit of string. The Northern Company's steamer Rothesay, crossing liawhia bar yesterday, was overtaken by a tgeniendouß ecu, which smashed her bulwarks and flooded the saloon. Captain Roberts, • who was at the wheel, narrowly escaped being washed overboard. A seaman named Turnbull was washed into the saloon and stunned. The gauge glasses in the" engine room were broken. Pressly, the engineer, attended to the engines up to his waist in water, the Heam escaping ad round him. The pumps were used until the steamer was inside the heads. JHE MISSING CONSTANCE CRAIG.
