WANGANUI v. WELLINGTON.
Per Press Association. Wellington, August 25. _ The representative hocki/ match, Wellington versus Wanganui, was played at Day's Bay yesterday under perfect weather conditions. The game opened with iast play, the forwards on both sides putting in splendid work. Five minutes after "bully off," Willis shot a fine goal lor Wellington. Wanganui then swept down to the other end, and Thomson scored. The Wellington forwards then look the game in hand, but a fine rush was spoilt by off-side play. However, they kept up' the attack, and Smythe', with a remarkable shot, scored a second goal for Wellington. Tho locals continued to press hard, but Wanganui's defence was stubborn. Just before halftime, Willis scored again for Wellingtcn.
Wanganui opened the second half with a strong attack, which they maintained till Thomson scored. Wellington. 3; Wanganui, 2.
After Thomson had almost notched, another goal, the home team set up a forward rush, which ended in Davies scoring. In ft few minutes, 'Wanganui had revenge, H. Harris shooting successfully. Wellington, 4; Wanganui, 3. Davies next scored for Wellington, and then Cox for Wanganui sent the ball into the net, but the score was disallowed owing to off-side play. In a few minutes Wellington again attacked, and Willis scored once more, making the final soore—
Wellington, 6; Wanganui, 3. The game was very interesting from a spectacular point of view, by reason of the alternate scoring.
