DISTRICT COURT.
SLANDER AND LIBEL CASES. Per Press Association. Pahiatua, August 22. . At the District Court, Elizabeth White sued Margaret Britlaud for £3OO for alleged slander. Judgment was given for £25 and costs. In the case of Branigan v. Macdonald, plaintiff claimed £250 for alleged libel printed in the Pahiatua Herald, concerning a statement made about evidence given by plaintiff in tne case, MeDermott v. McDonald, heard in the S.M. Court. After hearing the evi dence and arguments of counsel, Judge Haselden said, taking the whole article together, the words used were not fairly capable of defamatory meaning, and he withdrew the case from the jury. Plaintiff was non-suited with costs. Notice of appeal was given.
