Pet Press Association. Ohristchurch, August 20. At the, Supreme Court John Cl'aitt, aged ;u, anil his wife, aged liij, /sued the Tramway Board for £250 ou account of injuries sustained by the wife, who, when stepping oil' the tram, fell 011 her [head. It is alleged that the tram started before the woman got oil". The jury alter 35 minutes' consideration gave judgment for the Board. Wellington, August 20. A number of prisoners'were sentenced, by Justice (Jooper to-day. Alfred Hughes, of Woodville, who pleaded guilty to altering the date of .a birth certificate, was admitted to probation on condition that he paid the costs of the prosecution; John Pressley pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault at I-Vilrting and was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
Dunedin, August 20. The criminal sittings were continued to-day. A verdict of not guilty was returned in the case of James Kussell, charged with assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. The allegation was that he 'threw a bottle at another man, and indicted serious injuries to his head. Prisoner was discharged. Charges against an old man, James Wright Campbell, of breaking and entering, and of thefts were proceeded with, and accused was sentenced to la months' imprisonment. Wellington, August 20.
At the Supreme Court to-day, Philip Brewster and Charles Dunn were charged with having kept certain premises in Ellcrs' Avenue, off Willis street, Wellington, as a common gaming house. Accused were convicted, and remanded till to-morrow for sentence.
