MOA ROAD BOARD.
At the monthly meeting of the Moa ■Road Board on Saturday, there were present:—Messrs Trimble (chairman), i Chamney, Chard, Corkill, Hoby, Cap, ; per, Lawrence, and Young. The Egmont Road Board forwarded [the following resolution: "That the Moa Road Board be asked to co-operate with this Board to get the County Council to take over the Egmont road from Devon line to the Junction road. The road is now metalled all the wav, and is really a highway, saving u;:i ■,' miles to the public who use it going from the Junction road to Bell Block."—No action taken.
Mr Uenwood waited on the Board, 1 stating that the Waitara West Board had written to.him that they had de- 1 eided to postpone expending the £2OOI loan for the Davis road until the Moa Road Board raised a similar amount for expenditure on the same road,—The' Waitara West Board will l» informed' that this Board is raising a loan oij £3OOO, a portion of which' is for ex-| penditure on the Davis road.
Tenders were accepted:—Formation and metalling, ,Tas. Tarrv, £7 10s; Upland road west, gravel, G. Swan, fis Gd per yard; Norfolk road west, 40yds stone a) 3s, A. Corney. Mr Corkill will arrange for a trial of a road grader at Tarata. The County Council will be asked for a subsidy towards metalling the apf proaeh to the Waiongona bridge. Mr Parli was gvauted permission io take earth from Ludlcy road, subject to the foreman's supervision. All outstanding rates will be sued for at once.
Accounts amouniina to £212 13s 9d were passed for payment,
HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Taranaki Hospital and Charitabic Aid Board met on Monday. Present: | Messrs J. H. Parker (chairman), E. Bellringer, Jas. Burgess, C. Andrews, J. Brown, C. O'Sullivau and D. It. McDonald. OLD PEOPLE'S 110M13. Mr Earrar, manager at tlio Home, reported two admissions and two departures during the month, all males. One inmate had refused to do light work, and his cash allowance had bean stopped. There were now in the Home 25 males and 5 females. The general health of tho inmates was good. MEDICAL 11EPOKT.
Dr Leatham, medical superintendent, reported that during the week there had been 28 patients admitted, 32 discharged, and 31 remained in the institution at date. One death had occurred. There had been 18 operations and 18 other anaesthetic administrations. REPRESENTATION. Dr ValinOne, Inspector-General, asked J the Board to furnish him with a list showing the amount which was required by the Board from each of tho contributing local bodies in the district last year. If there were any local authori-
tks in the i'.istrict which had been constituted since the date of the last triennial apportionment, and were now eni tiled to representation, lie asked to be
notified, so that the representation could be apportioned. The secretary produced a statement showing present representation as follows:—Taranaki County (4 votes) and Egmont County (1 vote), contributing £072 9s Cd and £152 14s 8d respectively, entitled to three memburs j Clifton County, £226 17s u'd, one member; New Plymouth Borough (4 votes) and Waitara Borough (1 vote), nor; Inglewood Borough, £4l 14s 53, member; total, seven members. It was suggested the representation be as follows:—Taranaki County 2, Kgniont County 1, Clifton County and Waitara Borough (combined) 1, New Plymouth Borough 2, Inglewood Borough 1; total seven. After some discussion Mr Brown moved that it be a suggestion to Dr Valentine that' the Board's members be increased
by one, to represent Egniont. Mr Brown
pointed out that although EgmoutCounty Council had a representative on the Board, it was only due to the courtesy of the Taranaki County Council, who were entitled to three members on the Board. Some members of the Council i thought that they should appoint their full number so that the Waitara riding could be represented. Should the Taranaki Council take that stand, Eginout ■would lose its representative. 1 Mr Burgess seconded the motion.
Mr O'Sullivan moved an amendment to the effect that the Taranaki County Council's representation be limited tu two, and that Egmont County and Waiitara Borough each have a member. There was no seconder.
Mr Bellriuger thought the Board should simply forward the information aßked for, but suggest no alterations, preferring to leave things as they were. Mr Brown thought the Taranaki County Council would fall in with the views of the Waitara people, and appoint a member from the Waitara rid-
The motion was carried. THE DENTAL STAFF. The Board discussed the application of the honorary dentist to be paid a fee as in the case of the honorary medical staff Mr Grey wrote that lie had willingly acted as honorary dentist for 18' years, but now the calls on his timewere so frequent that he could not continue in that capacity. The secretary read letters from the Napier, Wellington, North Canterbury. Wanganui, Palmerston North, Auckland, and Nelson Hospitals, every one of which had the honorary system in vogue. The Board decided that it could see no reason for departing from the general custom Mr Gray will be so informed, and the thanks of the Board will be tendered to him for his services in the past.
TENDERS. Mr Frank Messenger, architect, notified that he had received the following 'tenders for the electric light installation at the Hospital. George and Stokes, ,€107; F. C. Griffiths, £lO7 14s; Smart Bros., £114; W. Nixon, £l2B 15s. The lowest tender was accepted. FINANCE. The Treasury advised that £37(i 10s Gd had been remitted to the Board's j credit, being subsidy for £ for £ on £177 3s 6d, and 24s in the £ on £l6B 12s Gd.
Accounts amounting to £GO7 lis 2d (Hospital £433 15s 2d, charitable aid £173 15s) were passed for payment. GENERAL.
The secretary to tho Stratford Board | wrote that his Board disclaimed any liability for the maintenance of E. J. Goblin, a patient in the New Plymouth HosI pital.—Tho secretary said that lie had communicated further with the Stratford Board on the matter. : The. names of Misses M. McLellan (Wanganui) and F. K. Sugden (Vogeltown) were placed on the probationers' list.
. The House Committee was authorised to replace the destructor with a more effective concern, and to have the gas fittings overhauled.
