Per Press Association. Auckland, August 18. . Tlie steamer Navua, which arrived from the Islands yesterday, brought news of a feared slumping catastrophe in the Tongan Group. . Tile trading schooner Scliarlotte, owned and sailed by Captain A. W. Gordon ■ Mackay, formerly known as the l 'coprn | king," left Tonga on July 12 for NinaIfoon, a two days' journey, and had not boon heard of since, although she was three weeks at sea when the Navua visited the Group. The .Scliarlotte had sixty natives 011 board for Ninafoon, and it is believed all were lost, including the captain, as no tidings of cither the boat or her living freight had been received up to the time the Navua left for Auckland six days ago
