The Grand National Meeting was cou tinned at Riceartou to-day under more favorable conditions than prevailed on Tuesday. The weather, though ! dull at the start, cleared later on, and the afternoon turned out * fine. The course was in capital order. The attendance was good and speculation was brisk, the investments totalling £20,BS7, an increase of £3314.
The Grand National Hurdles proved an easy win for Shrapnel, who led practically the whole way, and established a new record for the race, the previous lieat being Record Reign's 3.40 3-5. Results:
Hunt Club Cup: Sir .las. 1, Wahine 2, Albury 3. Also started: Craigmore, ltosemorn, Deerslayer, Post-haste, Stormy Petrel, and Purimu. Won by three lengths. Time, 5.!). Dividends, XH 4s (id and £5 10s.
Slimmer Handicap. One mile: Fandango 1. Czar Kolohol i, Outer 3. Also startc: Hinupiiai, Ruapehu. Giovanni, Ancycle, Mangrove, West Wind, Steplink. Won by a length and a half. Time, 1.40 1-5. Dividends, £l2 2s and £1 7s
Aiigusut Handicap. Six furlongs: Probable 1, De Witte 2, Waikutu 3. Also started: Helen Portland, Jolly Friar, St. Bill, lvanoir, Eons, Tessera, Ingleneuk, Volodia, lilytliemaid, Jolly Roger, Jack Ashore, and lleorUien. Won by a head. Time, I.IT 2-3. Dividends, £24 lis and £2 17 s.
Grand National Hurdles, of 1000 sovs. About two miles: Shrapnel, 10.8, 1; Paritutu, 11.4, 2: Ability, 10.0, 3. Also started: Lady lluiie, Craisot, Landlock, Ben Jonsou, Merriwai, Gold Dust, | Stronghold, Cavalry, Lull, Stayboy, Lce|side, Seu Sim. Idasa, Levant, Te Uira, and Southern Cross. Shrapnel was ill front as they passed the stand, and held command throughout, winning by four lengths from Parilutu, who was two lengths in front of Ability. Time, 5,44 1-5. Dividends, £0 5s and £2 10s.
Beaufort Steeplechase. About two miles and a half: Xadador 1, Irish 2, Hikairoa 3. Also started: Kaiterc, Romany Lad, Loch Fyue, Pijii, Hutana, and St. Kocuinga. Won by two aDd a half lengths. Time, 5.0 2-5. Dividends. £7 Gs and £3 10s Od. Iviatere and St. Kooringo fell. Islington Handicap. One mile: Buecleueh 1, Medallist 2, Clanchattan 3. Also started: Pas Seul, Montigo, Lapland, Whakawihi, Chatterer, Gwendoline, M;.taari, White Cockade, and Fancvwork. Won by two aud a half lengths, l ime, 1.-13 4-5. Dividends, £4 13s anu £1 ss.
