HARBOR BOARDS BILL.
Per Press Association. Wellington, August 13. The Legislative Committee of the Wellington Harbor Board interviewed the Minister of Marine to-day with roJerencc to the Harbor Board Bill before the House. The Minister explained that the only portion of an existing Act that was repealed was that giving tiie chairman of the Chamber of Commerce a seat on a Board. "Elector" meant any person qualified to vote for any local body. Ho thought it quite possible an amendment would be made putting the Boards in the four chief centres on the same footing in the matter of the number of members and Government representation. In his upiuion twelve was a fair number for a Board. Three Government representatives out of ten members were too many. He did not think it necessary for the Mayor of a town to have a seat on the Board by virtue of Ms office. As to the country districts he would like to arrange the representation on a raiepaying basis, which was the only workable basis.
