Christchurch. August 13. At the Supreme Court to-day a youth named John Downie Stewart was acquitted on a charge of forging and uttering a cheque. Holmes was also acquitted on a charge -of stealing £8 and a gold watch and chain from a fellow passenger on the Maheno on July 18. The charge of manslaughter against Win. Barnard Rhodes Moorhouse, arising out of the New Brighton beach motor cycle fatality, was mentioned by, Mr Stringer, the Crown prosecutor. He said that counsel were coming from Wellington to defend Moorhouse, and he understood that there were several medical witnesses. He therefore suggested that the case might be fixed for Friday, and his Honor fixed the case accordingly.

Wellington, August 13. At the Supreme Court to-day, the case in which Sydney Macnamara waß charged with having kept a common gaming house was concluded, accused being found not guilty. William Henry Oalcenf ull pleaded not guilty to a oharge of stealing £8 from Charles.Ridenhaigh at Martinborough, but pleaded guilty to receiving the money, knowing it to hive been stolen. The prosecution accepted this plea, and sentence was deferred.. James Kennedy was acquitted on a charge of stealing £5 from Frederick Siegel at Masterton. -
