INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, August 8. The conference between Dr. Mason (Chief Health Officer) and the local authorities was held to-day_ to discuss the matter connected with the erection of an infectious diseases hospital. In [the course of Ms remarks, Dr. Mason said the delays liad been occasioned through no fault of the Hospital Board. The Premier and Minister • of Public Health had given an assurance that if there was a ilaw in the title deed regarding the site at Pelichet Bay, the Government would take all responsibility, and, if necessary, a special Act would be passed vesting the land in the board. The erection of the hispatal could therefore be proceeded with at once. Pending tho erection of the building. which would take some eight or nine months, lie would see what could best be done for the care of cases of infectious diseases that might arise. The following resolutions were carried: — l "That the architect be instructed to confer with Dra. Mason and Ogstone re plan for the proposed hospital, plans and estimates to be submitted to the board nt next meeting on August 15." "That having respect to the assurance given to Dr. Mason, on behalf of the Government, concerning all technical difficulties with respwt to the title of the land, the work of erection of a suitable hospital be proceeded with at once." "That pending the erection of the hospital, arrangements be made for the care of infections diseases sucli as amulet fever, erysipelas, etc., outside of general hospital, and that the hospital trustees be asked to care for all cases of diphtheria which may require hospital treatment pending the erection of the hospital, it being understood that the board provides such moneys as are necessary for extra nursing involved in the treatment of such cases."
