ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Per Press Association. Auckland, August 5. A fatal accident occurred wlillo the I nion Company's steamer Aparima was taking in Btores at Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. It is stated that the chief steward, Henry Hqsgkey, was helping a lumper to take a sling containing stores. The sling swung round und knocked him on the lighter alongside—a fall of 30ft. Ho was picked up, but before he could he placed aboard the fipiraina lie had expired. Hawkey has a wife and two children at Wellington. He came to Auckland on relief work on the Apiraina. He had been an employee of the company for a number of years.
