INQUESTS.
Per Press Association. Wellington, August 4. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death in the case of Samuel Stevenson, who fell from a scaffold in Jervois Quay. Dunedin, August 3. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Ambrose Phillips, who was killed on Friday evening at Caversham by being run over by a railway train. A son-in-law of deceased gave evidence that for the last eight or ten days deceased's mind was unhinged, and that his manner at times was peculiar. It was also stated that on the day of his death, deceased acted in a peculiar manner. A verdict was returned that deceased met his death by throwing himself in front of a railway train in motion, and that he did so while suffering from temporary insanity.
