A NARROW ESCAPE.
FIRE AT THE TERMINI'S HOTEL. There have been several incipient (ires ill New Plymouth lately, starting in linen-presses. A very serious conflagration, emanating from the same locality, was narrowly averted at the Terminus llotel_ in the early hours of yesterday morning. The lire was discovered by a lady boarder who had had to get up to attend to her sick child. She gave the alarm, and Mr \V. Petersen, who was .sleeping dose by, was aroused. He awakened the household, deeming it impossible (o put out the liames. Several of the gentlemen staying in the house set lo work with a will, mid sooll i m( | the fire under control. It is surmised that the lire originated from a caudle left in the linen-press, for a candlestick was found in the debris. The damage to ceilings, walls, carpets, linen, etc amounts to about £SO. There was another narrow escape, A gas iet in the kitchen by someone who°rnn for witter was pushed over against the wall, which became ignited, and was burned light through. Hail (he hotel gone, and there seemed every likelihood of it, the loss would have been a heavy one to .uclsaac and Wrigley, who were to give up possession to the incoming proprietors yesterday.
