PROVINCIAL NEWS.

WAREA. The progressive euchre and dance function took place last week. There was a good attendance. The successful winners were—Gentleman, Mr P. Kivell; lady. Miss ]!. Ay 1 ward, the latter winning after three sisters had played off. The room was afterwards cleared for dancing, Mrs S. Sefton presiding at the piano, and Mr T. E, Larking acting as M.C. The Egniout County Council are now repairing the Waiweranui bridge. After the repairs are finished it will be tarred.

A meeting of Oddfellows was held on Wednesday night to make arrangements for farewelling Mr. A Corbett, who is leaving the district. It was decided to tender him a smoke concert next Friday, August 2nd. On Thursday evening an address was given under the auspices of the Taranaki A. and 1\ Society. There was a good number of farmers present, Mr ■!. Burgess being ill the chair. Messrs Newton King. Ambury, Webster, Captain Young, and others gave interesting addresses. Captain Young's address dealt chielly with the cow.

Mi' T. Julian's gang of men, who have been working on the Carrington road, have now been shifted to a part of the load nearer Opunake. The Rille Club's bull, held on Friday evening, was a great success. ilr 1). Paterson supplied the music, and Mr C. \Y. Corbett acted as M.C. The dancing was kept going until about three on Saturday morning. The total takings at the door were over £5.
