COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENTS.

In the case, Carruthers v. the Union Steam Ship Company, a claim l'or compensation for injuries on board the Jiiararoa, the Arbitration Court has decided that the Legislature has power to make a law giving to a servant a right to compensation in respect to an acpidenl happening on the -ro} ago of a New Zealand ship between New Zealand purls. It was also heid that the business of the company was an employment to which the Workers' Compensation for Accidents Act applied, and that claimant time within the detinition of workers. Claimant was awarded compensation at the rate of 22s Gd per weekr during his total or partial incapacity.
