The Rugby Union yesterday afternoon presented Colin Gilray.the Rhodes scholar, who loaves for Oxford to-mor-row, with an inscribed sovereign case in recognition of his sterling services 10 club football in Dunedin. Mr Gilray is the most popular playor in Otago this season. Tho Rhodes scholar was entertained at a farewell by University students last evening, says a Press wire from Dunedin.
Mr J. Allen, of Onehunga, arrived by the Rarawa on Monday to take over a responsible position in the Stratford branch of the National Bank. Mr. Allen has for some time past been engaged in the correspondence department of the National Bank, Auckland. Prior to the bank closing on Saturday, says the Auckland Herald, the staff gathered together, when Mr Henson, on their behalf, presented Mr Allen with a travelling bag and companion, at the same time expressing hearty wishes for the future.
Mr T. Hutchison (New Plymouth) has come to England on leave of absence after 15 years' continuous magisterial work.writes the London correspondent of the Auckland Herald. Ho is accompanied by his wife ana" daughter. They travelled as far as Marseilles by the P. and 0. steamer Mooltan, arriving there in April. Thence they made a tour on the Riviera, and worked their way through to Italy, in which country iliey made an extended tour, ultimatelv reaching Switzerland by way of the Italian lakes. Paris was visited before London was reached. They expect to be in the metropolis for some time. The return journey will be made bv wny of America 'in October or November.
