Charles Siddel, a Wangaimi publican, who was a passenger by the YVimmcra from Xi'w Zealand, in company with wveral other Wnnganui residents* to see the Towns-Webb sculling match, died just prior to the vessel's arrival. Deceased was unwell whan he began the ravage.
On Sunday evening he was caught try ing to esca|H through a porthole in a lavatory. 1h» i-hip's oTirers burst in Ihu dour, and nizcrl him by the legs just a? hi was disappoai.ng.* They h.ing on while the vessel was was stopped. A line was lowered and he was haired aboard again. His condition was then serious, and be gradually sank. Mr Siddel was a prominent supporter of the srulb-r Webb.
