ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Nelson, July 30. The death' of three old residents is recorded to-day. They are Jesse Honnaell, aged 73; Geo. Eves, aged "5: and Fredk. Taylor, late of Collingwood. aad formerly of the 68th Regiment, aged SI. Carterton, July 3". Mr E. L. Wakelin, one of the.olde-t pioneers of the Wairarapa, died this morning, aged 77. He had been for fifty jean settled in the Wairarapa. Napier, July 30. At the inquest on the body of William v Henry Mooney, the jury returned a verdict of found drowned, but there was no evidence to show" how deceased got in the water. Dunedin. July 30. Jas. Arthur, a single man, 28 years of ageiias died at North-East Valley as the result of injuries sustained on the railway duplication works at Caversham < 'i March 0. While deceased was unloading sand from trucks, an engine bumped the trade against a sleeper, and Arthur was crashed. He was taken to the hospital, where he remained for two months, being then removed to his home. An inquest Witt be held. Auckland, July 30. The City Council's foreman reported that at 9.13 to-day a blasting accident occurred at the stone enishcr at Mount Eden. One of the men was loading a powder hole, and, while putting the powder down to the l»ttmn of the hole with a tamping lmr, an explosion recurred. A man named William Heares had his arm badly lacerated below the elbows, the hemmorrhage being very bad. His right leg was also hurt, and he was sent to the hospital. Another man, Benjamin Smith, had the back of his right hand skinned and his left arm burnt.
