ANTI CHINESE MOVEMENT.

Per Press Association. Dunediu, July 25. As the outcome of tiie visit and addresses by Air Lloyd in Dunediu, a pro-, visional committee has been formed to keep the anti-Chinese, movement active, rind to promote educational propaganda with tiie view of inducing people to lefrain from patronising Chinese. A conference will bo held in Wellington in duo course, and a deputation will wait on the Premier. Mr Lloyd, on leaving Dunediu, goes to Auckland, speaking at Christchurch and on the West Co.ijst en route, and returning to Wellington ,-ia Napier and Palnierston North.

Since, Mr W. A. Lloyd hold his antiChinese meeting in Duneuin the treno} of the movement has not escaped 'thenotice of the Chinese merchants ai.|i hawkers ol the city (says the, Duncdin Star), and, as far as the situation j.m be asosrtnined, it seems very likely that they may take some trade step by way of retnlintiin on those who wish to restrict their business. They, have discussed the matter a good deal of late, and it is reported on very good authority tlmt they have talked over the question of refusing to supply greengrocers whoi may happen to make themselves prominent at Mr Lloyd's meeting at the Gar-' rison Hall. The matter of landing each Chinese vegetable dealer unto a bond of £2O each (presumably to some central Chinese committee or society) to carry out the hoycott rigidly has also been mentioned, but ae yet everything is in a more or less nebulous condition. What sieejns certain is that after the reports of to-morrow's anti-Chinese meeting appear tliey will be discusfte'd; at a subsequent meeting of Chinese, wlio will finally decide whether retaliativc measures are to be proceeded with or net.
