The New Zealand team was officially welcomed and entertained at a smote concert • to-night. The Attorney-Gene-ral presided.
THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM. DENIAL FROM "ALL BACKS." Per Press Association. Wellington, July 23. A private cable states tiiat several members of the New Zealand team in Australia whose names arc mentioned in the published lists of the professional team deny that they have been included.
Information to lia'ud from Manchester states that the visit of the "All Black" professional footballers is being looked forward to with great interest, and a correspondent states that the matches played are lure to draw big gates. In support of this, it is stated that the ollieial receipts at professional matches played under the Northern Union during the past season were very large. The smallest gate at any one match was £IBOO. The New Zealand professionals are to receive 70 per cent, of the gate money.
PLAYERS SUSPENDED. Dannevirke, July 22. Some diorderly scenes took place at the junior football match between Dannevirke and WoodviUe last week, in consequence of which the Dannevirke sub-union disualified a Woodville player for two years for striking an opponent. It was tlie second offence this season, suljmnion disqualified a, Woodville player for bad language, and another native for five yealrs for obscene language and inciting players to rough play. A fourth case was adjourned. Two were dismissed.
Tn a club match, Wanganui v. Knierau, the only score for Wanganui was made bv a Kaierau player. The Chronicle report states that Takarangi. in Ins own 25, kicked for the line. The bill screwed and went over his own go.il. thus scoring four points for Wangan.ii. The Wellington senior football matches on Saturday resulted as follows: Poneke ffl). beat St. James' (8); Athletic (3) beat Oriental (nil): Wellington (10) beat Victoria College (10); Petone (14) beat Melrose (3). The Chriatehurch senior football competitions were concluded on Snturd-iv, the results of the afternoon's matches being: Albion (20) beat Old llovs (nil): Sydenham drew with Merivale.no score; Linwnod (13) heat Cliristclmrch (3) ; Canterbury College, a bye.
