U'l'om Our Own Correspondc.nl-,). RAHOTU. The danger of horses and cattle straying on the roads at night was forcibly illustrated the other night. As a party was returning home from the euchre party in a gig, they ran into a horse which was roaming on the road, and which they could not see in the darkness. For- | innately the only damage dona was a I broken shaft.
The bachelors of Hahotu are holding a ball on the :ilst inst. A strong committee has been appointed and every elforl is being made to make the event a memorable one.
Two residences are now being built on the Opourapa road, which has recentiv been metalled-one for Mr (iilhoole'v and one for Mr Tioniface.
A tangi is being held here on the body of a young man named Tiki Rnn»i, who died nt llaweru. There is a large gathering of unlives. The first quarterly meeting of (he new (.'ape Kgnioni Methodist enrcuit was he'd in the church on Wednesday. The following representatives were present:— Rev. Worboys (Opunake), Messrs Hurst and I'ettigrew (Pihama), Kirkwood (Oaoimil. Mr and .Mrs Ua.vnor, Messrs-T. P. (iughsoii. (;. Ilughson, K. Taylor (Haholul, T. <i. Hilling (Xgariki)', Symons and H. Symons (Pungarelm), Wells and Henry (Puniho), Featherston alid Daily (Okatol, Smith (Tataraimaka). The finances were shown to be in a very satisfactory state. The Rev. Laybourn had taken well with the people and encouraging reports were received as to his work. An increase of membership was reported, also a new Sunday School hnd been opened nt Ononui under the superintendence of Mr (I. Hughson. A tea was provided by the ladies at the close of the meeting. In the evening n social was held. There was a very large attendance, and Rev. Worboys presided. Several of the visiting representatives spoke. Items were given by the choir, organ solo by Mrs Laybourn; recitation, Mr Hurst; song, Mjr (J. Hughson; phonograph selection, Mr Corkin; song, Mr Hurst. An excellent, was provided by the yonng men, and handed round by them.
Mr Evan Jones, formerly manager of the Pungarehu Supply Stores, lins purchased Mr Jas. Lusk's store at Ononui, and takes possession on September It.
WAREA. A rifle match" was held on Wednesday in glorious weather at the Warea range for Mr C. H. King's trophy. The following are results for the first competition:— 200 300 hep. Tl. S. A meeting of the rillc. ball committee was held in the library on Frid-iy evening, all the committee being present. It was decided to hold the bail on the 21st iust. The following ladies' committee was appointed: Mcsdames larking,Millar, Judge, Clarke and T. Julian (senr.) Mr D. Patterson will be engaged to suplily the music.
A rifle drill was held in the hall on Friday evening, when there was a large attendance, and a good drill resulted. Mr fJ. Woods acted as instructor. The last football match for the Dinnjond Cup was played on Saturday against Okato, and resulted in a win for Okato by fl points (two tries) to nil. The game was a good one.
