But difficult as th« task was Mr Taylor came through tile ordeal triumphantly, amid the plaudits of a most enthusiastic audience. Ho was equally at homo in both (he comic and pathetic phases of the character and his mastery of the Dutch' dialect was worthy of the great Jefferson himself. Hip Van Winkle will form a valuable addition to Mr Taylor'* large repertoire of star impersonations."
