Christmas Tree was held in the local hall for the purpose m raising funds to provide additional comforts to the Library jn the form of new floorcloth, curtains, and other furniture. Success attended the efforts of the promoters to the extent of ill or ■CS. \\ ednesdav night was also the occasion of another social function, under the auspices of the Church if England, for the purpose of welcouiin.' tile Rev, Dent, recently transferred to fie Eltliam district from Waitara. A trap accident occurred yesterday (Tliiirsdny) to Dr. Wake and his wife, of Eltliam, wdio while driving to Ngaire were thrown from their vehicle by°one of the wheels coming off, .Fortunately both escaped with only a shaking. The local sawmill, owned by Mr Oi. ■Syine, is now idle, until further tramway is laid to more hush.
