A YOUNG GIRL'S TROUBLE.
,—, Per Press Association, Christchurch, July 3. An eighteen-year-old single girl, who travelled from Dunedin to Lyttelton last night on tho s.s. Mokoia, gave birth to a female child during the night. She was attended by the two stewardesses and a married woman who was a passenger. The child died, however, before the vessel reached Lyttelton. Later. An inquest was held at Lyttelton this afternoon touching the death of the infant on the Mokoia, which arrived from Dunedin this morning. Evidence was given that the child was bom about 2 a.m., but died. It did not breathe pro. perly, and, after an attack of convulsions, died between .'! and 4 o'clock. There was no medical man on the boat, but tbe stewardess did everything she could for the mother and child. A verdict was returned iu accordance with the medical testimony that death was due to congenital weakness.
