Writes our Onunaku correspondent:—
The first nvitehes under the home union wove pl.iyed on Wednesday, when Opuuake Stars defeated Oaoimi by 11 points to 7, and Pihama "walked over" Te Kiri to the tune of 22 points to nil. The Opunake seniors started for ]]»• wera on Saturday with eight men. Failing to pick up the requisite munh". along the road, the eight returned and forfeited to Hawera. The travelling is a great drawback to Opunake, and unless we gut our railway the districts will have to he subdivided.
(Jpunake juniors got their first wi<, on Saturday, when they defeated Hawcra juniors by 6 points to 3. Neither team had its full strength, Opuuake b»;ing assisted by three seniors, whilst 11a* wera were assisted by two Waimate players. The game *as very fast and interesting, though the sloppy state of the ground greatly militated against the fast Hawera backs. In the first spell Vincent scored a try for Opunake, as the result of a fin« opening made by Hill, and Deegan dropped a penalty goal In the second spell condition told and Hawera had the bette./ of the game, and after a fine run by Robertson, Morrison scored a try. Bet is made &n *lfkieur refeiei.
