; TENNIS IN ENGLAND. London, June 9. Brookes, of Victoria, won the singles at the northern championship, Manchester. He lost three games during the entire competition. Gasdagli and Charlton defeated Brookes and Bendal for the doubles. Love and Bentley defeated Sharp and Doust (Sydneyite) in the final for the East Surrey doubles.
■-UNITED STATES' CUSTOMS EEGU- , LATIONS. New York, June 0. The American customs regulations embodied fa the agreement with Germany declare that valuations made by the Chambers of Commerce, .officially connected with the Government, shall be accepted as evidence of the price of exports to Germany. The stipulation benefits France, not Britain, where the Chambers are not official. It is hoped that the British Government will arrange to appoint agents to superintend valuation.
MAGNIFICENT SHOW OF nORSES. London, June 9. There was a magnificent spectacle at tie Olympia, where were shown 2000 horses, the pick of the world. These Included horses of all classes from America, the Continent, and England. Messrs .Vanderbilt and Winans and other rich 'Americana have already taken many prizes. Mr Armour's grey draught bones were present but did not compete. {There were 17,000 people present on the 4 opening day.
; LIMITATION OF ARMAMENTS. Paris, June 0. M Pichon, French Minister for Foreign 'Affairs, says that Franco should examine the proposed limitation of armaments .without illusions, pending a unanimous decision.
A COMMONER IN TROUBLE. London, June 9. Mr Burnycat, a Commoner, was summoned at the London Police Court on a charge of dunkenness. He pleaded that his condition was due to the effects of chlorodyne taken for the relieving of griping pains, and was acquitted.

CLERGYMAN KILLED. Melbourne. June 10. The Rev. J". Gillett, rector of St. Mithias, Paddlngton, Sydney, who was on a visit here, was ran over by a motor car at St. Kilda yesterday.
ROYAL VISIT TU ENGLAND. Loudon, June f). ' The King and Queen of Denmark, aboard the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert, and escorted by four cruiser* from Hushing, «« welcomed by the Channel Fleet at Portsmouth, where the Prince of Wales received them. LATE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. London, dune !'. The spectator states that the Conference Blue Book shows that the Pieminers were unable to realise th.it Free Traders' objection to giving preference was not out of love for foreigners, but because they did not wish to make holes in taxes which would therefore become unproductive. Taxes are not for juggling States into wealth or putting money in private pockets without benefitting the poor. The Blue Book also shows how unjust were the allegations of discourtesy towards the Premiers.
