DEATH OF A NOTED NEW ZEALAND LADY.
Per Pro»s Association. Au-kland, .bine 0. Mi»s Martha R Bodgood, died at the home of her brother at l'a.ihia, I'.av of Island, en' .May 2Kth. She was a daughter of one of the old missionaries, and was burn at Waimale North in 1537 in the lirsi ''wliarepuriri" built bv the mission.! lies, in that, the oldest, 'settlement in New Zealand. In her childhood she v.itm-sed some of the exciting incident:, connected with llcko's war in 1815. Her active life hid for the most part been devoid to the Maori work. Miss llo.lgooii's last public work was to tour Hi' Auckland diocese some years ago as a llible colport-ur. Bishop Cowic used to value her in forma I ion as to Moor! work. Her remains were laid to rest on Thursday, May 3(1, in the churchyard Waimale Xorlh, within a few chains of the place of her birth. The funeral servile ua< pirlly in English and partly in Maori, being conducted bv Archdeaci.n Walsh and the two local Maori olcc-vm-n.
