MOTHER AND DAUGHTER.
Per Press Association. Dunedln, June 4. Margaret Cuttle was charged at the Police Court with beating her daughter Xeilie, aged fourteen, with unduo severity. Complainant stated that ehe had been beaten for an hour with a supplejack across the body and arms. A second heating with a strap lasted half an hour. Tlie defence was thai the girl had been punished, but not excessively, for going U> houses improperly conducted. The mother had dressed the girl in boy*& clothing to prevent her going to such places. Owing to the conflicting evidence, Uie Magistrate dismissed tho case, it being understood tluit tho Salvation Army would look after the girl in the meautiwe.
