Nelson, June J, At the Harbor Board's meeting today, the pilot reported that the work oi cutting tile new channel lias now so Jar proceeded that vessels of the liofchic d iss could, be brought into tile harbor without dilliculty. To-day was generally observed as a holiday, A six-aside hockey tournament attracted a large number in the morning, and the seven-aside football tournament still a larger numjber in tiie afternoon, when fourteen teams competed. The Maitai A team won the hockey tournament, the Rivals the tsenior football, and the Waimca's the junior football tournament. An interesting conference between representatives of the local bodies of tile district and members of Parliament took place to-vlay, when the former urged the establishment of an experimental farm in the district. The members cordially supported tiie proposal. A house on the Waimca road, belonging to Noel Bray, was destroyed by fire to-day. The insurances were I'. 150 on tiie house and £SO on the furniture, both in the Norwich Union.
