ORGAN RECITAL.

Despite the wet weather of last even- J ing a large assemblage attended at St. Mary's Church to hear the organ recital given by Mr. Mauglian Barnett, the wellknown Wellington organist. Mr. Barnett fully sustained his reputation as one of the' colony's most accomplished organists by the artistic and finished manner in which he rendered his high-class programme of music. As each item was given the large audience listened spellbound, and as the recital progressed the appreciative listeners felt that they were enjoying a musical treat seldom, unfortunately, heard in New Plymouth. Many 1 who attended were perhaps unaware that such glorious and soul-inspiring music could be produced from an organ. Tlte following programme was subinitted:—Prelude and Fugne in C minor (!>aeh), "Ave Maria" (Schubert), Canzonetta. (Nieode), Funeral march and hymn of seraphs (Guilmant), Minuet in [\ (IVaerdwski), Sonata in D, No. 0 (Mendelssohn), "Angles of Jesus'' (Spinney). Fantasie t pastorale (introducing stonn) (Wely). The recital concluded with a splendidly arranged and executed improvisation, iu which "God, Save the was used as a base.
