TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs. James Wade (chairman), (i. A. Adlam, (1. Tisch, J. D. Marison, W. Monkhouse, W. McL. Kennedy, 11. Trimble, 11. f'aull, and A. Morton!
ARCHITECTS REPOKT. The architect reported having visited | Oaonui, Stratford, Waiongona, ICgmont Village, and I'ilzroy. The Oaonni contract had been completed. The contract 1 for the woodwork room at Stratford would be completed in a few days; the plans has been altered at the request of the Inspector of Technical Education. The contract for erection of additions to Waiongona residence was Hearing completion. The Egmont Village residence was almost complete. The Technical School at New Plymouth with the exception of clearing up and some small matters connected with the painting which would be better done when the building was dry, was practically completed. The contractor was entitled to payment as per certificate, and the balance would remain over for five months as maintenance. A few small extras would come before (lie Board at its next meeting. Mr. Sanderson recommended the erection of new latrines at Kitzroy. costing less than £101). Some of the blinds required repairs at a cost of about Cl.—The report was adopted.
CHAIR MAX'S REPORT. The chairman reported having granted permission lor the Wnitui school committee to make the platform in the school moveable, so as to enable the committee to hold concerts in the buildings for the purpose of raising funds for the improvement of the school erounds. lie had imposed a condition that the Board was not to he called on for any portion of the cost. On hearing from Mr. Tryer that Miss Urquhart was unable to continue her duties as assistant in the District High School at Stratford, he had authorised him to communicate with Miss Taylor with a view to getting her to take up the duties temporarily. Miss Taylor had promptly responded. Miss Stephen, teacher at Bird Road, had been granted leave of absence on account of the ijlness of her father; and Mr. MeKenzie had been appointed temporary teacher. He hoped the Board would declare Empire Day a school holiday.— Adopted. [ The Board rose, to resume at 0.30 this morning.
