Per Press Association. Uuuedin, Miiv 20. Mr. T. McKonzio, 1t.11.1t. (chairman of the Country School Committees' Association), has issued a circular inviting members of country schools committees and others interested, who are interested in education, to attend a meeting to be held in Dunedin on June ti. In the course of circular, Mr. McKenzic states: "The welfare of country schools is being imperilled by the great number of uncertificated teachers in the service, all of whom are in country schools. A few years ago we had not an uncertificated teacher in Otago; now we have SO. In 18ii-l, (lie enloiiy had 1(12; last year it had ;Ui); this year it has ((SO. The work of some of our district high schools requires adjusting. A check lo (lie centralising tendency is reipiired, and some of the powers that have been taken from the Boards regarding additions to schools. etc, should be restored. .Specialisation of subjects, with a view to the future lives of pupils, should be considered, and better heating of schools, and the question of placing on Hoards the whole cost of maintaining buildings will be brouglit up.
