NATIONALISATION OF RAILWAYS
URGED BY Sffi JOSEPH WARD. EVIDENCE BEFORE IRISH RAILWAYS COMMISSION. Received 19th, 5.8 p.m. London, May 18. Sir Joseph Ward gave evidence before the Vice-Regal Commission on Irish railways. He explained tho general position of New Zealand railways, and strongly urged State ownership, which, he said, provided uniformity of system, prevented rebates, assisted settlement; and development, and supplid a great engine for advancing the best interests of the people.
