HARBOR BOARD.
The Harbor Board met on Friday. Present: Messrs. J. B. Connctt (chairman), N. King, G. McLean, J. Thomson, R. Price, J. Ward, D. J. Hughes, J. Hino, junr., aud E. Maxwell. HEALTH REGULATIONS. Dr Mason, Chief Health Officer, telegraphed that lie understood the Torgauten, from Port Stephens, came to the wharf last trip prior to medical inspection, and he would be glad to know if that course had been necessitated by any special circumstances. A further letter, dealing with the same subject, stated that if the ship had been conducted to her berth by an oilicer of the Board before obtaining the necessary declaration, that officer was liable, to the penalty laid down by section 114 of the Public Health Act, 1000.
The harbormaster explained that the vessel arrived during his absence on leave. His deputy had never berthed an intercolonial vessel before, and was not aware of the necessity for inspection. The master of the vessel, too, was anxious to berth at once, because of the threatening appearance of the weather. He (Captain Hood) had arrived next morning, aud he immediately communicated with Dr. McClclland, and bad themedical inspection made, the report being favorable. It was decided that Captain Hood's explanation he forwarded to the Department, BELL ROCK RESERVE. Messrs. Govctt and Quilliam, the Board's solicitors, reported that there was little likelihood of any trouble arising in lix.ng the boundary of the board's reserve at Bell Block, Mr. W. L. Newman (trustee for adjoining land) offering crery facility for settlement. The Board decided to take steps to have the land brought under the Land Transfer Act. BEACH STORE.
Regarding the County Council's request for leave to remove beach boulders, the engineer, Mr. F. W. Marchant, reported that so far the Boad had never used any of these boulders; but with the exhaustion of the present quarry within measurable distance, he could not advise the Board to part with anything in the shape of stone that might be of future value for the Board's work. The County Council will be written to, accordingly. SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY. The Shipwreck Relief Society forwarded a circular letter asking financial assistance. Mr. Maxwell said the Board had no information as to the constitution of the society. They had no knowledge of the manner of people conducting the society's operations or whether responsible trustees were appointed. He suggested obtaining the information. Mr. Thomson thought the Board should not take any trouble in the | matter at all. A Member: We may be (he means of preventing a huge fraud. We ought by all means to get the information. It was decided to enquire of the Harbor Boards' Association. I GENERAL.
The Westford Jluvbor Board offered for sale suction sand pumps and appurtenances. —Ilefererd to the engineer. TKAXSHUMIEXT SHED. After the luncheon adjournment, the Board discussed the plans and specifications of the transhipment shed submitted by the engineer. It was decided to let the matter stand over for a month to allow of the. engineer explaining his provision for exterior Avails of iron, the members of the Board favoring wood. TENDERS. The I'oard consented to the transfer of a lease of a harbor reserve from Alfred (Icorgc to the Taranaki Petroleum Company. K was decided to order a further 1000 casks of cement from Eiwland.
